Donald R. Decker, 80, of Chambers Hill, passed away on November 21, 2012. He was born May 7, 1932 to the late Herbert and Romaine Decker. Donald was also the beloved husband of Marie E. (Dorrian) Decker.
He was a member of St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church in Harrisburg and Lawton Legion Post 998. Donald was an avid pool shooter, enjoyed cruises, and dancing. His life was centered around his family and friends. He was the life of the party, always joking and making others laugh with his pranks and costumes.
Mr. Decker was a U.S. Army veteran, having served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was then a tile setter employed by Harold Decker Remodeling.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Decker was preceded in death by his brothers, Marlin, Ronald, Dale, Herbert; and sister, June May.
Surviving are his wife, Marie E. Decker; 6 sons, Michael G. Decker and wife Karen of North Carolina, Donald J. Decker and wife Samantha of Florida, Dennis R. Decker and wife Laurie of Harrisburg, Matthew J. Decker and wife Joann of Camp Hill, Darren Decker and wife Tammy of Harrisburg, Daniel Decker and wife Dawn of West Virginia; 7 daughters, Jeanne M. Anderson and husband Paul of Harrisburg, Diane Bircher and husband Daniel of Harrisburg, Maureen Beardsley and husband Michael of Middletown, Debbie A. Decker of Carlisle, Linda A. Hagerty and husband Edward of Enola, Lori A Platt and husband Michael of Harrisburg, Elizabeth M. Conjar and husband Thomas of Enola; brothers, Harold A. of Steelton, Charles L. of Texas; sisters, Shirley C. Brown of Florida, Nancy L. Staub of Harrisburg, Joan R. Bateman of Harrisburg and Sharon K. Jones of Middletown; 41 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; adopted brother, James Moffet, Sr.; and his beloved dogs, Shamrock and Stella.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 26, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, 4000 Derry Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111. Viewing will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church on Monday. Additional viewing will be held Sunday, November 25, 2012 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home, Inc. 4100 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17109. Interment is at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101-9950.
