Born on leap year, February 29, 1928 to James and Glenna Earnest in Chuckey, Tennessee, she grew up in West Pittston, Pennsylvania where she was valedictorian of her high school class. She and her late husband Paul were married for 56 years. They were long time residents of both Pennsylvania and Naples, Florida.
Charlotte had a long career as a registered nurse, working for hospitals in Pennsylvania, New York, California and Texas. She earned a Masters Degree in Health Education from Trenton State University. She retired in 1987 as a school nurse for the Neshaminy School District in Langhorne, Pennsylvania.
Charlotte and her husband loved nature and enjoyed camping, boating and fishing. They were widely traveled, having visited all 50 states, every Canadian province and many foreign countries. As an avid photographer, she captured many memories of family trips.
Charlotte is survived by her two children, Bob Durland and Paula Durland Mahan, their spouses, Christy Durland and Bob Mahan and her six grandchildren. During her final years, her family was fortunate to have her living close by for love and support.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Our Lady of Hope in Richmond, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any remembrances be donations to Bon Secours Hospice, Richmond, VA or the National Parkinson Foundation.
