Eugene A. Garand

Eugene A. Garand, 83, passed peacefully amongst family on Wednesday September 4, 2013, at his residence in Red Lion , PA. He is a former resident of Pipersville, PA and Jacobus, PA.

Born September 12, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late George and Helen Garand.

Mr. Garand was a US Navy veteran having served in the Korean War. He was a Cub Scout, Webelos, and Boy Scout Master, and member of the Seven Valley's Baptist Church in Jacobus, PA. His hobbies included woodworking, airplane model building, photography, camping, and he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris; children, Dorene Ridgway and husband Rick, Steven Garand and wife Suzann, Glenn Garand and wife Gail; and siblings Malinda Lacy, George Garand, Robert Garand, and Raymond Garand. He was blessed with five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 3 step great grandchildren.

Eugene was the eldest of nine children, preceded in death by Georgia Garand, Nancy Keebler, Thomas Garand, and Doris Wirgenar.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 21, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at 830 South Park Street, Red Lion, PA 17356. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Community Care, 224 Saint Charles Way, Suite 200, York, PA 17402 or the American Diabetes Association, 301 Chestnut Street Suite 101 Harrisburg, PA 17101.
