Thomas O'Donnell, 89, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on February 2, 2012 at Hospice of Lancaster County. Born April 16, 1922 in Allentown, he was the son of the late Mary Kulick.
Tom lived in Gap most of his life and resided at Harrison House, Christiana, for the last 9 years. He served in the US Navy during World War II on the USS Tillman as a signalman. He retired from Lukens Steel, Coatesville and was a lifetime member of the Christiana American Legion and Reinholds VFW.
Tom was an avid Pinochle, Yahtzee and Lottery player. His competitive nature was witnessed by all who challenged him to a game when he gave you the horns to ensure you wouldn't win. From the comfort of his armchair, Tom enjoyed cheering on the Phillies and racehorses. He enjoyed playing golf as well. He would often volunteer to cook breakfast for his grandchildren when they spent the night. His sense of humor and witty nature was enjoyed by all.
He is survived by daughters, Trudy Ketler, Dale Mendenhall (Elwood), Jean O'Donnell and daughter-in-law Dee O'Donnell. He had six grandchildren, Jody Beck (Jim), Kelly O'Donnell, John Ketler, Betsy McDonald, Sally McDonald and Maggie Rhoads. He also had nine great-grandchildren. Tom was preceded in death by two children, Charlie O'Donnell and Lynn O'Donnell and one granddaughter, Lynn O'Donnell.
Tom will be buried with Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604. The family wishes to thank Harrison House for the loving care of Tom while he was there. In honor of Tom, may your horse win at the races, may you choose the winning lottery numbers and may you roll a Yahtzee.
