On June 20, 2011, Rose Marie Oberdorfer passed away at the Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill after a serious illness due to strokes. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 11, 1933.
She is survived by her husband, Wilson; a son, Thomas McCarr and his wife Christine; three step-daughters, Barbara Hoffman and her husband Arthur, and their children, Carolyn and Louis, Susan Allison and her husband John, and their children, Matthew, Andrew, and Jayne, and Nancy Sandberg and her husband Keith, and their son, Jesse; and a step-son, Charles Oberdorfer, and his son Zachary.
She was a cosmetician during much of her working years. She worked for Estee Lauder in large department stores in Manhattan and, upon her move to Mechanicsburg in 1972, for Mary Sachs in Harrisburg. In 1976, she received a personal letter from Leonard Lauder, President of the Estee Lauder Company and son of Estee Lauder, praising her for "wonderful" and "outstanding" work and appreciating her "enthusiasm" and "dedication."
Rose Marie enjoyed the activities, dances, and dinners at the West Shore Elks, the VFW, and the Commissioned Officers Mess in Mechanicsburg, of which she was a member.
