Charles D. Ditchfield, 77, of Williamsport, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2011, at Valley View Nursing Home.

Born July 4, 1933, in Williamsport, he was son of the late Myron V. and Florence T. (Snyder) Ditchfield.

Charles was a 1951 graduate of Williamsport High School and a 1955 graduate of Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, now known as the University of the Sciences. He was pharmacy director for Williamsport Hospital for 30 years and had worked as a pharmacy inspector and investigator for the Department of State. In addition, he held many offices in the Central PA Pharmacy Association and had served as past President and was a life member of the PA State Pharmacy Association. He was appointed to the State Board of Pharmacy by Governor Richard Thornburg.

Throughout his life he was active in many things. He was a trombone player throughout high school and was first chair in state band. Charles was active in scouting on all levels beginning with Troop 12, St. Luke's Church and the West Branch Council. He was also a member of the American Antique Car Association and the Susquehannock Region Antique Car Association.

He liked hunting, camping and canoeing. Charles and his wife enjoyed traveling and entertaining. He was a member of the Lycoming County Historical Society and St. Mark's Lutheran Church. His retirement was spent enjoying time with old friends RV camping along the creek and tailgating at Penn State.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Ruth "Bunny" (Neff) Ditchfield; a son, Michael Ditchfield and his wife, Mary, of Trout Run; 2 daughters, Michele Manganello and her husband, Mark, of Chandler, AZ, and Melanie Hensel and her husband, Thomas, of Elizabethtown; 4 grandchildren, Brody and Dalton Manganello and Megan and Michael Hensel; a step-grandson, Ralph Colone and his wife, Meg; and 2 step great-granddaughters, Maddie and Abby Colone.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 12, 2011, 12:00pm, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 142 Market Street, Williamsport, with the Rev. Kenneth Elkin officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30am until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church or to the Lycoming County Historical Society, 858 West Fourth Street, Williamsport, PA, 17701.
