Donald J. Dearolf

Donald J. Dearolf of Lancaster, PA died on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Hospice & Community Care after a 16 year battle with lymphoma. He is survived by his wife of 33 years Susan Hager Dearolf and daughter Katherine Trauger, wife of Douglas (the best son-in-law ever!)

Born in Lancaster Pennsylvania, Don was the son of the late John and Gloria Dearolf.

He worked many years for Musser’s Locker and later for Ampad Paper Co.

Don had a great appreciation for art and painted for several years before taking up carving in 1994. He had a special love of caricature carving which he was first exposed to at a Lancaster County Woodcarvers show; he later became a member of this club and was both a student and teacher of classes offered. The North East Woodcarvers Roundup and Hill Crest Carving were the highlight of Don’s summers for many years. He was also published in Woodcarving Illustrated.

Don enjoyed carving with others who shared the same appreciation of fine wood, sharp knives, and great friendships. To those he would end with this: “Have fun and keep carving!”

He was also known as an avid fisherman; spending much of his time at the Susquehanna River as well as numerous streams and ponds.

In addition to his wife and daughter, Don is also survived by his brother David Dearolf and wife Connie; sisters Gloria Mae, wife of Butch Chmiel; Rose, wife of Roy Mellott; and Kay Dearolf.

A Christian service will be held at Colemanville United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. There will be no receiving line prior to the ceremony; however friends are welcome to fellowship with our family immediately following the service. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Kindly omit flowers. Contributions may be made to Hospice & Community Care.
