Joseph E. Danko, 90, of Lewisberry, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015, at Harrisburg Hospital. He was the loving husband of Mary Anne Cypcar.

He was born April 20, 1925, in Scalp Level, PA.

Mr. Danko was a proud US Navy veteran having served in the South Pacific during WWII aboard the USS Griggs and Attu.

Joe was a long time Mine Foreman and Fire Boss for Berwind White Coal Company in Winder, PA and Consolidated Coal in Flat Top, WV. Joe was also a Machine shop foreman for Berman Mfg Co, Olivetti Corp, Valk Mfg, and AMF.

He was a member of the VFW post 6771 in Dillsburg and the American Legion Post 0026 also in Dillsburg. Joe was also a member of the Greater Harrisburg Association of Realtors. He assisted many local families in finding their homes. Many of his closest friends were his former clients. He loved to boat, fish and camp. For many years, Lake Raystown became his second home.

In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by his loving step-children, James Cypcar (Danielle), Edith Klinger, Anne Cypcar and Michael Cypcar (Stacy) and 5 step-grandchildren and daughter, Marcia Hankey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Katherine Ensminger; and son, Mark Danko.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, August 16, 2015, 5:00PM, at Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home, Inc., 4100 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17109. Visitation will be from 4:00PM-5:00PM. Rodney Miller will be leading the service and requests others to join in sharing memories of Joe’s life.

The family would like to thank the staff of Pinnacle Harrisburg Hospital ICU for the compassionate care of Joe in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Friends of Raystown Lake, PO Box 87, Hesston, PA 16647 in his memory.
